Court hears confession details in Sana Yousaf murder case

Published on: May 16, 2026 3:02 AM

Investigation Officer Fakhar Abbas informed the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad on Friday that the main suspect in the murder case of TikToker Sana Yousaf had confessed to the killing before a magistrate and helped police recover key evidence linked to the case.

During the proceedings, the officer submitted details of the investigation through Prosecutor Naveed Hussain. He told the court that suspect Umar Hayat was arrested outside his residence in Jaranwala, where police also recovered a mobile phone from his possession.

The investigation officer further informed the court that the suspect later brought investigators to Islamabad and pointed out the pistol allegedly used in the murder. The weapon was recovered during the investigation. He also stated that the accused identified the location from where a rental car had been hired, and the vehicle was later traced by investigators.

The court was told that the suspect had already been identified during an identification parade. The investigation officer said that, at the suspect’s own request, his confessional statement was recorded before a magistrate, where he admitted to the murder of Sana Yousaf.

Investigators also informed the court that fingerprints collected from the glass installed on the door of Sana Yousaf’s room matched those of Umar Hayat, according to a NADRA report. The investigation officer added that WhatsApp conversations between the accused and the victim were also part of the investigation record.
