Momina Iqbal thanks CM Maryam after NCCIA summons suspect in harassment case

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore has summoned actor and model Momina Iqbal along with a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of Provincial Assembly over allegations of online harassment, cyberbullying and death threats.

According to officials, both parties have been called to appear before investigators on Thursday after the actor’s complaint gained widespread attention on social media. NCCIA Punjab head Muhammad Ali Waseem confirmed that the matter would be examined strictly on merit after reviewing the initial application.

The case surfaced after Momina Iqbal publicly alleged that she had been subjected to prolonged online harassment and intimidation. She claimed that a provincial lawmaker from the ruling party had been threatening her for an extended period, causing severe mental distress for her and her family.

The actor said she had repeatedly reported the matter to cybercrime authorities and the Federal Investigation Agency but did not receive timely action. She further alleged that attempts were made to suppress her complaints and discourage her from pursuing legal remedies.

A source familiar with the development said the complaint gained momentum after it went viral on social media, prompting attention from senior leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, including Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The party leadership reportedly directed authorities to ensure swift investigation if allegations were substantiated.

Momina Iqbal also claimed that individuals linked to government offices attempted to pressure her into remaining silent, an allegation that has not been independently verified.

She has urged authorities to ensure an impartial inquiry, provide protection for her family and take strict legal action against those responsible if the claims are proven.

Officials say both the complainant and the accused MPA will be questioned as part of the investigation, which remains at an early stage.

The case has sparked widespread discussion on social media about online harassment, digital safety and accountability of public officials in Pakistan.
