PML-N govt sets record in public welfare projects in minimum time: CM Maryam

Published on: May 23, 2026 11:08 AM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday thanked the people of PP-83 Khushab following the unopposed victory of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Sardar Zafar Abbas Baloch in the by-election.

Congratulating the successful candidate and voters of the constituency, the chief minister expressed gratitude to the people of Khushab for their support.

CM Maryam Nawaz said the unopposed victory in the PP-83 by-election had reaffirmed the public popularity of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

She said the journey of public service under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif would continue.

The chief minister further stated that the PML-N government had set a record for launching the maximum number of public welfare and development projects within the shortest period of time.

Separately, Maryam Nawaz has directed administrative and police officers across Punjab to remain in the field during Eidul Azha instead of staying in offices, as the provincial government finalised extensive arrangements for security, cleanliness and public facilitation during the holidays.

Chairing a high-level video-link meeting on Eidul Azha arrangements on Friday, the chief minister issued comprehensive guidelines to all deputy commissioners and district police officers, warning that negligence or poor implementation of orders would not be tolerated.

She ordered a fine of Rs50,000 for throwing animal waste and offal in streets, neighbourhoods, drains and canals during Eid days. Authorities were also directed to strictly enforce the restriction on sale of sacrificial animals only at designated cattle markets and take action against illegal livestock trading in unauthorised areas.

The meeting was informed that digital monitoring and vigilance operations would be carried out at cattle markets, while strict security arrangements would be ensured to prevent incidents of cattle theft and robbery.

She directed authorities to ensure a ban on banned organisations collecting sacrificial hides and prohibited the use of loudspeakers at hide collection camps.

Special security measures and continuous combing operations were ordered in sensitive areas, while instructions were also issued to strictly enforce the ban on display of weapons and aerial firing.

The chief minister further directed authorities to perfume Eidgahs and mosques with rose water and ensure cleanliness in railway colonies, cantonment areas and private housing societies.

She also ordered uninterrupted water supply during Eid holidays, display of fare lists at bus stands and inside buses, and covering of dumping sites near airports.

The meeting decided to ban temporary swings across the province, while authorities were instructed to conduct safety and security checks of amusement rides installed in parks. Directions were also issued for cyber patrolling to curb hate material on social media.

All deputy commissioners and district police officers participating in the meeting were instructed to ensure strict implementation of Eid SOPs, with the chief minister warning of action in case of non-compliance.

Moreover, Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday expressed sorrow over the death of senior journalist Amir Mateen’s brother.

The chief minister extended her heartfelt condolences and sympathies to Amir Mateen and the bereaved family over the loss.
