Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved a Rs50,000 fine for illegally dumping animal waste during Eidul Azha. The decision came during a high-level meeting reviewing province-wide cleanliness arrangements for the religious festival. Authorities will deploy thousands of workers and vehicles to maintain sanitation across Punjab.
During the meeting, Maryam directed officials to establish vigilance squads to monitor illegal dumping activities. She also ordered a public awareness campaign encouraging citizens to dispose of animal waste responsibly. Furthermore, authorities will conduct special cleaning operations in drains, canals, private housing societies, railway colonies, and cantonment areas.

The provincial government also announced extensive cleaning plans for 2,687 commercial markets across Punjab. Officials will clean major roads, highways, and intersections during Chand Raat to ensure better conditions before Eid prayers. Additionally, biodegradable shopping bags will be distributed for safe disposal of animal remains and garbage. Maryam emphasised coordinated efforts among all government departments to improve cleanliness standards.

According to the briefing, more than 176,000 sanitary workers and 8,000 temporary staff will participate in the Eid operation. Over 40,000 vehicles, including loader rickshaws, tractor trolleys, pickups, and mini dumpers, will support waste collection efforts. Authorities will also establish 3,800 collection centres, 3,100 disposal sites, and 7,000 dumping points across Punjab.

Special cleaning arrangements will also cover 1,200 collective sacrifice sites, cattle markets, mosques, and graveyards before Eid celebrations begin. Meanwhile, control rooms will operate in deputy commissioners’ offices, municipal corporations, and WASA departments to address public complaints. Citizens can also report sanitation issues through the Suthra Punjab helpline at 1139 during the Eid holidays.
