Rubio added that further developments could emerge within hours or days as negotiations continue behind closed doors.

The US secretary of state also reiterated Washington’s demands regarding Iran’s nuclear and regional policies. He said the United States expects Iran to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz and hand over highly enriched uranium. According to Rubio, President Donald Trump still prefers resolving the crisis through diplomacy rather than military action.
Despite diplomatic optimism, Rubio did not rule out the possibility of renewed US military action against Iran. He stated that Trump had made clear the issue would be resolved “one way or the other.” The remarks came as Trump unexpectedly remained in Washington instead of attending his son’s wedding, further fuelling speculation over the sensitive negotiations.
