PM Shehbaz praises nuclear heroes on Youm-e-Takbeer

Published on: May 28, 2026 12:47 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s defence remains firmly secure and ready to eliminate all threats. He issued a strong message on Youm-e-Takbeer, reaffirming national unity and military strength. His remarks came as the country marked 28 years of its nuclear tests conducted in 1998.

Pakistan carried out nuclear tests on May 28, 1998 in the Chaghi district of Balochistan in response to Indian explosions. The day is annually observed as Youm-e-Takbeer, symbolizing Pakistan’s entry into the group of nuclear powers. It is remembered as a turning point in the country’s strategic and defence history.

In his message, the prime minister paid tribute to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, and Dr Samar Mubarakmand. He said Pakistan would have faced greater threats without nuclear capability. He added that the nuclear deterrent and armed forces remain a strong barrier against any aggression.

Shehbaz Sharif claimed that Pakistan successfully countered recent hostile narratives and false flag allegations from India. He said the nation and armed forces stood united to defeat hostile intentions and proxy threats. He also praised the leadership and professionalism of Field Marshal Asim Munir in strengthening defence preparedness.

The prime minister further stated that Pakistan’s armed forces are fully equipped with modern weapons and remain committed to defending every inch of the homeland. Meanwhile, Inter-Services Public Relations said the day reflects strategic balance, national unity, and sacrifices of scientists and armed forces in achieving nuclear capability.
