Karachi faces protests over prolonged power outages across city

Published on: May 31, 2026 6:05 PM

Residents across Karachi have demanded an immediate end to unannounced load shedding as prolonged electricity outages continue to disrupt daily life in multiple neighbourhoods. Citizens report that extended power cuts are severely affecting homes, businesses, and essential services across the city.

According to local complaints, electricity outages in several areas have exceeded 12 hours, creating widespread hardship for residents. People in densely populated localities say they are struggling with daily routines as repeated interruptions continue without clear schedules or official notice.

Furthermore, areas including Orangi Town, Korangi, Lyari, Mauripur, Lines Area, Quaidabad, Malir, Manghopir, Keamari, Surjani Town, and New Karachi have reported frequent and prolonged power failures. Residents also highlighted similar issues in Soldier Bazaar, Hawksbay Road, and Gulshan-e-Maymar.

In addition, citizens in multiple neighbourhoods staged protests against the ongoing situation, demanding restoration of consistent electricity supply. Many residents claimed that power outages in some areas have lasted two to three days, further intensifying public frustration and inconvenience.

Meanwhile, K-Electric denied carrying out load shedding exceeding 10 hours and stated that supply interruptions were linked to non-payment of electricity bills. The utility maintained that it continues to manage distribution according to operational and financial constraints.

As the situation persists, residents continue to press authorities for immediate action to resolve the crisis. Public pressure is increasing on power suppliers and regulators to ensure stable electricity supply and address long-standing concerns over load management in the city.
