In a major step towards strengthening emergency healthcare services in Sindh, the Sindh Health Department’s central emergency medical services institution has inaugurated a new Emergency Services Operational Base in Dadu and launched a Rescue 1122 ambulance service at the Shaheed Makhdoom Bilawal Health Unit. The ceremony also marked the foundation stone laying of a state-of-the-art Trauma Center that will further enhance healthcare facilities in the district.
The newly launched ambulance service will provide timely emergency medical assistance and patient transportation to residents of Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Dadu, Johi, Kachho, and several surrounding towns and villages, particularly benefiting people living in remote and underserved areas. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Member of the National Assembly and Deputy Secretary General of Pakistan Peoples Party Sindh, Sardar Rafiq Ahmed Jamali, and Chief Executive Officer of Emergency Services, Brigadier (Retd.) Tariq Qadir Lakhiar.
Addressing the gathering, Sardar Rafiq Ahmed Jamali described the establishment of the Emergency Services Operational Base and the launch of the 1122 Ambulance Service as historic milestones for Dadu district. He said that under the “Health for All” vision of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, numerous healthcare and welfare initiatives are being implemented across the district to ensure better medical facilities for the people.
He added that the project would provide modern emergency healthcare services at the doorstep of people living in mountainous, riverine, and remote regions, while also creating employment opportunities for local youth. He further announced that an Air Ambulance Service would soon be launched from the Dadu operational base to facilitate the rapid transfer of critically ill and injured patients to major healthcare centers. Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier (Retd.) Tariq Qadir Lakhiar said that the primary objective of Rescue 1122 is to provide immediate medical assistance during accidents, cardiac emergencies, maternity complications, and other critical situations, helping save precious human lives.
He informed the audience that a modern Trauma Center is being constructed in Dadu on 13 acres of land at a cost of billions of rupees, where world-class healthcare facilities will be available. He also highlighted the remarkable growth of the institution, noting that emergency services began in 2021 with only 41 ambulances, while today a fleet of 627 modern ambulances is serving people across Sindh around the clock.
Local community leaders and residents welcomed the initiative and appreciated the efforts of Sardar Rafiq Ahmed Jamali and the Sindh government in expanding quality healthcare services across Dadu district. They expressed hope that such welfare-oriented projects would continue to strengthen the healthcare system and improve the quality of life for the people.
