Armed robbers looted the residence of senior police officer Irfan Samo in Defence Phase VIII, Karachi, while police claimed to have obtained important evidence related to the suspects and registered a case.
According to police officials on Monday, the robbery took place late on Monday night at a flat in Murtaza Commercial in Defence. SSP South said that Irfan Samo’s brother and nephew were present in the apartment when the suspects entered at gunpoint.
The robbers allegedly held the family members hostage and fled with laptops, mobile phones and other valuables.
A case has been registered at Sahil Police Station on the complaint of Irfan Samo’s brother. Police officials said investigators had obtained important leads and evidence regarding the suspects involved in the incident and expressed confidence that the accused would be arrested soon.
Meanwhile, acting on the directives of Additional IGP Karachi Azad Khan, Karachi Police carried out successful anti-crime operations across the city during the past week, resulting in the arrest of more than 800 suspects.
According to a spokesperson for Karachi Police on Monday, district police engaged in 17 encounters with armed robbers during anti-crime operations. Three suspects were killed and 19 others, including 17 injured robbers, were arrested following exchanges of fire.
Police recovered 22 illegal weapons of various types, one hand grenade and seven motorcycles from the arrested suspects. The spokesperson said that a total of more than 808 suspects were arrested in Karachi’s East, West and South zones during the week.
As part of the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign and operations against criminals, police seized 50.597 kilograms of hashish and 1.896 kilograms of ice/crystal methamphetamine and heroin, collectively worth millions of rupees.
More than 99 illegal weapons along with ammunition, allegedly used in robberies and other criminal activities, were also recovered from the arrested suspects.
Meanwhile, police recovered 33 snatched or stolen motorcycles and three vehicles during raids conducted in various parts of the city.
