
SHANGLA: Six children from the same family lost their lives and another was critically injured after the roof of a mud house collapsed in the Rahimabad Bassi area of Alpuri tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla District on Tuesday morning.

According to officials from Rescue 1122, seven children were trapped under the debris when the roof suddenly gave way while they were sleeping inside the house.
Rescue teams responded immediately after receiving the emergency call and launched a search and rescue operation. The bodies of the children were recovered from the rubble within an hour, while one injured child was pulled out alive and shifted for medical treatment.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Rasool Khan Sharif said all the children belonged to the same family. The deceased were identified as 14-year-old Nazira Bibi, 13-year-old Samira Bibi, 12-year-old Umaira, seven-year-old Nayab, and five-year-olds Rizwanullah and Haya Noor.
An 11-year-old girl, Marwa, survived the incident but sustained critical injuries. Officials said she was receiving medical care, and her condition remained serious.
The tragic incident has shocked the local community, with residents expressing grief over the loss of young lives. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the cause of the collapse, although mud houses can be vulnerable to structural damage caused by age, weather conditions and weak construction materials.
Rescue workers and local residents participated in clearing the debris following the collapse. Officials have urged residents living in old or damaged structures to take precautionary measures to prevent similar incidents.
The tragedy comes weeks after another fatal roof-collapse incident in Charsadda District, where three children were killed and two adults were seriously injured when the roof of a house caved in.
