Trump rejected reports claiming that US and Iran talks have ended

Published on: June 3, 2026 9:46 AM

US President Donald Trump has rejected reports claiming that negotiations between the United States (US) and Iran have ended, insisting that discussions between the two sides are continuing despite ongoing tensions and uncertainty over a potential agreement.

In a statement posted, Trump described reports suggesting communication had stopped as inaccurate. He said contacts between Washington and Tehran remain active and confirmed that discussions had taken place as recently as Tuesday.

While expressing optimism about the diplomatic process, Trump acknowledged that it remains unclear how the negotiations will conclude. He reiterated that Iran has been informed that it is time to reach an agreement and indicated that the United States expects progress in the near future.

The comments come as efforts continue to secure a broader arrangement following months of conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran. Although a ceasefire has largely held since early April, tensions remain high and both sides have exchanged strikes in recent days.

According to reports, Iran is currently reviewing a proposed agreement aimed at extending the ceasefire and reducing regional instability. Iranian media said officials are taking a cautious approach due to longstanding distrust and concerns over previous US commitments.

Trump has repeatedly stated in recent months that a deal with Iran is within reach. However, negotiations have yet to produce a final breakthrough, with key issues such as Iran’s nuclear programme and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz still under discussion.

The strategic waterway remains a major concern for global energy markets, as disruptions have affected the transportation of oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.

Meanwhile, Pakistan continues diplomatic engagement in support of efforts to reduce tensions and encourage dialogue between the two countries.

Observers say the coming days could prove critical as negotiators work to bridge remaining differences and determine whether a temporary agreement can pave the way for a broader and more lasting settlement.
