Trump confirms heated call with Netanyahu

Published on: June 3, 2026 11:30 PM

US President Donald Trump confirmed he sharply rebuked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over military actions in Lebanon. The exchange matters because it highlights rare public friction between close allies during a fragile regional ceasefire. The dispute affects diplomatic efforts involving Israel, Lebanon, Iran, and the United States.

Speaking during a podcast interview, Trump acknowledged using strong language during a phone call with Netanyahu. He said he was frustrated by continued fighting with Lebanon and urged the Israeli leader to halt military operations. While confirming the confrontation, Trump stressed that he still maintains a strong working relationship with Netanyahu.

The remarks followed reports that Trump accused Netanyahu of escalating tensions and jeopardising broader peace efforts. Israeli officials have not publicly commented on the reported conversation. However, Israeli media cited sources who downplayed any serious disagreement between the two leaders.

Trump also expressed optimism about negotiations with Iran, describing developments as moving quickly. He reiterated that Iran had agreed not to pursue a nuclear weapon and suggested a future meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei could take place if diplomacy advances. Trump said he preferred a negotiated settlement but warned that military options remained available if talks failed.

Meanwhile, regional tensions remain high despite an uneasy ceasefire. Iran has accused both the United States and Israel of undermining diplomatic efforts through continued military actions. Trump said he remains hopeful that diplomacy can prevent further escalation and eventually reduce pressure on global energy markets.
