NDMA warns of floods and landslides across Pakistan

Published on: June 5, 2026 1:06 AM

The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a severe weather alert for several regions of Pakistan, warning of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and potential flooding. The warning matters because hazardous weather could threaten public safety, infrastructure, and transportation networks. Residents, tourists, and local authorities in affected areas are expected to face the greatest impact.

According to the National Emergency Operations Centre, the alert covers parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir during the next 12 to 24 hours. In Punjab, districts including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Sargodha are likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Authorities warned that strong winds and hail may cause damage to vulnerable structures and installations.

Meanwhile, several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also expected to experience stormy weather. Forecasts indicate rainfall and thunderstorms in Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Malakand, and nearby regions. Emergency officials have urged residents to remain cautious and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities.

Furthermore, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are expected to receive rain, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorms. Areas including Skardu, Hunza, Neelum Valley, and Muzaffarabad may experience severe weather conditions. The NDMA warned of increased risks of glacial lake outburst floods, landslides, and rising water levels in rivers and streams across northern regions.

Authorities also cautioned that landslides could disrupt major routes, including the Karakoram Highway, Naran Road, and Skardu Road. Travellers and tourists have been advised to check weather and road conditions before starting their journeys. The NDMA has directed provincial and district administrations to remain on high alert and encouraged the public to stay informed through the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application.
