PM Shehbaz reviews Tehran visit with Naqvi

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday to discuss the latter’s upcoming visit to Tehran and review national security matters. The meeting is significant because it comes amid heightened regional diplomatic activity involving Iran and ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral engagement. The discussions affect Pakistan’s foreign policy coordination and security strategy at a sensitive regional moment.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, consultations focused on Naqvi’s scheduled visit to Tehran. During the meeting, the prime minister provided guidance regarding the engagements planned with Iranian leaders. The discussion also covered recent regional developments and Pakistan’s diplomatic priorities as Islamabad continues to maintain close contact with key regional partners.

Naqvi also briefed the prime minister on his recent meetings held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation gathering in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The interior minister shared details of discussions with counterparts from several regional countries on security cooperation, migration issues, and counter-narcotics efforts. The briefing highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing engagement within regional forums to address shared security challenges.

A detailed review of the country’s law and order situation also took place during the meeting. Naqvi informed the prime minister about measures being implemented to maintain internal security, preserve public order, and protect citizens. Shehbaz stressed the importance of close coordination among all relevant institutions and called for a unified approach to further strengthen national security.

The meeting comes a day after Naqvi held talks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni on bilateral relations and regional developments. It also follows his previous visit to Tehran, where he met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Officials say the latest engagement reflects Pakistan’s continued diplomatic outreach with Iran amid evolving regional dynamics.
