A local journalist sustained critical injuries after he was allegedly attacked by a gang of drug-pushers near Bindra Puli in the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station on Multan Road, police and family sources said. The victim, Mian Zahid Owaisi, a crime desk journalist associated with daily, was reportedly surrounded and assaulted by around 10 to 15 unidentified assailants armed with sticks and clubs. The attack left him seriously injured. According to police sources, the incident occurred near Bindra Puli, where the suspects allegedly subjected the journalist to a severe beating before fleeing the scene. Owaisi was immediately shifted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH), where he is undergoing treatment. His condition was reported to be critical. Family members of the journalist alleged that the attackers were linked to drug-peddling activities and targeted him because of his professional work. However, police have not yet officially confirmed the motive behind the assault. Police said an FIR has been registered against the suspects and an investigation is underway to identify and arrest those involved. Further probe into the incident is in progress. Meanwhile, journalist bodies and members of the media community strongly condemned the attack and demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
