Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow was extremely concerned about the latest escalation. She described the conflict as a result of what Russia called unprovoked US-Israeli actions against Iran. Moreover, she urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid attacks on civilian infrastructure.
Zakharova stressed that military action could not resolve the crisis. Instead, she called for a political and diplomatic settlement based on international law. She also said Russia remained ready to help identify and implement mutually acceptable solutions. Furthermore, Moscow hopes the situation returns to diplomatic channels as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, Zakharova criticised US threats of additional military action against Iran. She described such threats as categorically unacceptable amid an already volatile regional environment. Her remarks came after the United States launched strikes on southern Iran. According to US Central Command, the operation targeted air defence systems and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest developments followed days of fluctuating tensions across the region. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it launched retaliatory attacks on American military facilities. Earlier, Israel and Iran exchanged strikes before stepping back from direct confrontation. However, the situation highlighted the fragility of the recent ceasefire and the risk of renewed conflict.
