The National Disaster Management Authority has warned of a possible flood situation in northern Pakistan until June 15. The alert matters because heavy rainfall may disrupt lives and damage infrastructure. Residents, tourists, and local administrations are directly affected by the weather threat.
NDMA spokesperson said rain spells may trigger local flooding in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir. Rivers, streams, and canals in mountainous regions may overflow due to heavy rainfall. The authority warned that flood-like conditions could develop in several districts. Emergency monitoring has been increased across vulnerable regions.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts including Chitral, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram and Mansehra face higher risk. Similarly, Azad Kashmir areas such as Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh and Rawalakot may be affected. Authorities urged residents to avoid rivers, streams and low-lying zones. Tourists were also advised to limit travel during the weather spell.
Gilgit-Baltistan has also been placed on alert due to expected rainfall. Vulnerable districts include Ghizer, Diamer, Tangir, Darel and Gilgit. Officials warned that water flow in rivers and canals may increase sharply. Local administrations have been instructed to stay prepared for emergency response operations.
Meanwhile, NDMA has directed all relief agencies to remain on high alert. Emergency teams and dewatering machinery have been deployed for rapid response. Authorities stressed precautionary measures to reduce risk and protect lives. The warning comes as northern regions continue to receive seasonal tourist inflows.
