Pakistan beat Afghanistan to clinch International Football Tournament title

Pakistan’s national football team made history by winning the Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament 2026 after defeating Afghanistan 2-0 in the final played on Wednesday night in Malé, Maldives.

Pakistan remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, securing three consecutive victories on their way to lifting the trophy. The triumph marks Pakistan’s first-ever title win in the final of a standalone international football tournament, a landmark achievement for the national side. The four teams who participated in the tournament were Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh U-23, and hosts Maldives. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi have extended their heartiest congratulations to Pakistan’s football team on winning the 2026 Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament.

In a post on his X handle uploaded on Thursday, PM Shehbaz Sharif said their impressive victory over Afghanistan in the final has brought pride and joy to the entire nation. He also extended his best wishes to the talented squad for their future endeavors. In his post on X platform, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also congratulated Pakistan football team for winning Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament in Maldives. The Green Shirts defeated Afghanistan in the final, raising the pride of the entire nation, Mohsin Naqvi said and added, the footballers made history by displaying splendid play and extraordinary passion on the field. Mohsin Naqvi said winning the first international football title after a long time marked the beginning of a new era for Pakistan football.

He said the football team’s historic victory is an inspiration and source of encouragement for every sportsman. Mohsin Naqvi praised the hard work of the players and management, expressing best wishes for future competitions. Pakistan won the Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament in Malé, Maldives, defeating Afghanistan by 2-0 in the final on Wednesday night.
