Ministers pay utility bills themselves: law minister

Published on: June 15, 2026 2:46 AM

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar on Sunday said that federal ministers pay their own utility bills and that the government is not bearing any such expenses. Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, he clarified that ministers personally pay electricity, gas, and other household utility bills, rejecting the impression that such costs are covered by the government. He further said that the fuel allocation for ministers has been reduced as part of austerity measures. “Ministers were earlier entitled to 400 litres of petrol, which has now been reduced to 200 litres,” he said. Tarar added that apart from the revised 200-litre fuel limit, ministers are not availing any additional benefits. He said that if members of the assembly wish to raise concerns regarding fuel allowances, the matter can be discussed further in the relevant forum.
