Alanis makes rare comments about life as a mom to three kids

Published on: June 16, 2026 10:21 AM

You oughta know Alanis Morissette loves being a mom. While the “Ironic” singer was getting inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, she assured that her kids Ever, 14, Onyx, 9, Winter, 6, with husband Mario “Souleye” Treadway, are still far and above the honor. “Archetypically, ‘Mom’ is number one for me,” she told E! News in an exclusive interview ahead of the ceremony at the Marriott Maquis in New York June 11, “and ‘writer’ is number two, so for that to be marked tonight, it really warms my heart.”

And while Morissette considers family her crowning achievement, she also shared how much it meant to receive acclaim after inspiring a new generation of writers. “Any of us writers, women, non-gendered, binary identifying, men frankly,” she continued. “There’s a lot of men who I connect with on this level. I think it’s those of us who are very sensitive and those of us who are empaths, we unite in a very quiet introverted way and a lot of writers are introverts.” As for the line she believes is the truest testament to her hall of fame status? She cited a lyric from “These Are the Thoughts” off the deluxe version of Jagged Little Pill.

“‘Can blindly continued fear-induced / Regurgitated life-denying tradition be overcome?'” Morissette quoted, admitting, “It’s the most amount of words in the smallest amount of time.” Now that she’s truly established her legacy, Morissette is gearing up to put everything that represents her career into one show during her Inglewood residency Butterfly With a Machete, which kicks off in November. “The ’90s message for me was basically stay in one lane as though that’s even possible for a whole human being,” the 52-year-old explained. “So this musical show, piece-I don’t even know what to call it. It’s a trauma-edy.” As she noted, “It’s taking all the challenges and some of the stories of my life and transmuting it into dance or movement or stories, comedy-and always music. Music’s number one.
