Lebanon ceasefire between Israel, Hezbollah begins

Published on: June 19, 2026 6:56 PM

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has come into effect in Lebanon, marking a significant pause in months of cross-border hostilities. The agreement is reported to have been implemented at 4pm local time. The development follows intense diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region.

According to Israeli media, the truce was brokered through mediation by the United States and Qatar. Washington reportedly engaged with Israel, while Qatar facilitated communication with Iran, helping secure the agreement. The ceasefire is seen as a key diplomatic breakthrough amid escalating regional instability.

An Israeli source confirmed to Hebrew-language media that the ceasefire is now in force. However, the source also stated that Israeli forces will remain stationed in a buffer zone in southern Lebanon. This indicates that while active hostilities may pause, military presence in sensitive areas will continue.

Israeli authorities have also warned that any attacks by Hezbollah would trigger immediate retaliation. The statement reflects ongoing caution despite the formal truce, suggesting that the situation remains fragile and dependent on compliance by both sides.

The ceasefire is expected to reduce immediate violence along the Israel-Lebanon border, though analysts say long-term stability will depend on sustained diplomatic engagement and adherence to the terms of the agreement.
