Azma Bukhari orders robust Muharram security arrangements

Published on: June 21, 2026 5:30 PM

Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bukhari has directed authorities to implement a comprehensive security and public facilitation plan to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram across the province. The instructions were issued during a high-level review meeting in Faisalabad focused on preparations for upcoming religious gatherings and processions.

During the meeting, officials conducted a detailed assessment of security measures, law and order arrangements, traffic management strategies, and public service initiatives. The review aimed to strengthen coordination among departments and ensure that all necessary preparations are completed before the start of Muharram activities.

Azma Bukhari emphasized that foolproof security must be provided for every majlis and procession route throughout the province. She instructed administrative authorities and law enforcement agencies to maintain close cooperation and remain fully prepared to prevent any untoward incident during the sensitive religious period.

Furthermore, the minister reiterated that the Punjab government places the highest priority on the safety and security of mourners participating in Muharram events. She stressed that effective communication between all relevant institutions would be essential for a swift and coordinated response to any emerging situation.

Recognizing the challenges posed by intense summer temperatures, Azma Bukhari also ordered special public facilitation measures for citizens. These include the establishment of water distribution points outside mosques and other key locations during Ashura to provide relief to worshippers and procession participants.

The minister noted that maintaining public safety and ensuring convenience for citizens remain central objectives of the government’s Muharram strategy. Authorities have been instructed to finalize all operational plans in advance so that religious observances can take place in a secure, organized, and peaceful environment.
