Punjab CM announces electric bus service expansion in Khanewal

Published on: July 11, 2026 7:55 AM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday directed the authorities concerned to take immediate measures for the resolution of public issues highlighted by members of the Punjab Assembly during a meeting held here.

The meeting was attended by MPAs Amir Hayat Hiraj, Chaudhry Ziaur Rehman, Rana Muhammad Saleem, Akbar Hayat Hiraj, Rana Babar Hussain Abid, Osama Fazal, Asghar Hayat Hiraj and others.

During the meeting, the chief minister announced that the electric bus service would soon be extended to Tulamba, Mian Channu and other areas of Khanewal district.

The lawmakers appreciated the chief minister’s efforts for the construction of the Multan-Vehari Road and paid tribute to her for launching the electric bus service in Khanewal district. They also conveyed the gratitude of the people of the district over the introduction of the service.

Representing his constituency, MPA Amir Hayat Hiraj said the people of Khanewal saluted the chief minister for introducing what he described as Pakistan’s most modern bus service.

MPA Rana Muhammad Saleem said the launch of the electric bus service in Khanewal marked the beginning of a new and modern transport culture.

MPA Akbar Hayat Hiraj said the electric bus service was nothing short of a blessing for the people of Kabirwala and adjoining areas.

MPA Chaudhry Ziaur Rehman said the people of Jahanian and surrounding localities were grateful to the chief minister for launching the electric bus service.

The chief minister expressed satisfaction over the expansion of the electric bus service to Khanewal and other districts and said the facility was the right of the people of Khanewal, Jahanian and Kabirwala and not a favour.

She said the provincial government was bringing 1,500 electric buses for the people across Punjab.

CM Punjab said the electric bus service was not merely a transport facility but the beginning of a new and modern transport culture.

The chief minister also directed the authorities to begin, at the earliest, the reconstruction and repair of the damaged bridge on the Khaliqabad-Tulamba Road SM Link.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed profound sorrow over the death of three people, including a mother and her son, after the roof of an under-construction building collapsed in Faisalabad.

The chief minister extended her heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families.

She also directed the authorities concerned to ensure the provision of the best possible medical treatment to those injured in the incident.

CM Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government stood with the grieving families in this difficult time.

She further reaffirmed her commitment to making dilapidated houses with unsafe roofs and walls secure through the “Apna Ghar… Mehfooz Ghar” scheme.
