Missouri Declares Emergency as Severe Flooding Submerges Communities

Published on: July 12, 2026 3:37 AM

Missouri flooding

The U.S. state of Missouri is facing a major Missouri flooding emergency after extremely heavy rainfall triggered widespread flooding across several areas. Residential neighborhoods have been submerged, thousands of people are stranded, and emergency authorities have launched large-scale rescue operations.

According to U.S. media reports, between 6 and 12 inches of rain fell across the affected regions, flooding roads, campgrounds, and numerous communities. The intense rainfall created dangerous conditions and caused water levels to rise rapidly.

Residential areas were left under several feet of water, with more than 90,000 people reportedly trapped by the flooding. Many residents climbed onto rooftops, trees, and other elevated locations while waiting to be rescued.

Officials said river levels reached a record 29 feet, sweeping away several homes. In response to the disaster, state authorities declared a state of emergency to speed up rescue efforts and provide assistance to affected communities.

Helicopters and rescue boats are being used to evacuate stranded residents, while emergency teams continue search and rescue operations. Weather officials have warned that additional rainfall could worsen the situation, with the Missouri flooding expected to continue posing a serious threat in the coming days.
