Progress made in Pak-US talks on reciprocal trade: secretary commerce

Published on: July 12, 2026 10:24 AM

The negotiations on the Pakistan-United States Agreement on Reciprocal Trade were held in Washington, DC with a view to its early conclusion.

“The talks were conducted in a cordial atmosphere, with both sides ironing out differences and building convergence, with a view to the early conclusion of the agreement,” Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said in a statement on his social media account on Saturday.

Federal Secretary Ministry of Commerce Jawad Paul, who led the Pakistan delegation, characterised the talks as positive and appreciated the significant progress made during the negotiations.

Negotiations on the Pakistan-United States Agreement on Reciprocal Trade were held in Washington from July 9 to 10.

Secretary Commerce Paul was leading the Pakistan delegation, which included Secretary OP&HRD Nadeem Chaudary, Andrabi and Joint Secretary Tariff Policy Mohammad Ashfaq, with representatives of other line ministries joining virtually.

The talks aim to further strengthen Pakistan-US trade relations, facilitate bilateral trade as a driver of economic cooperation, and pave the way for the diversification and expansion of existing trade.
