Dar reiterates govt’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted sugar supply

Deputy Prime Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Saturday, reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring the uninterrupted supply of sugar at affordable prices.

Chairing a high-level meeting to take stock of the availability of sugar across the country and ensure price stability for consumers, he stressed that the government would adopt a zero-tolerance policy against hoarding, speculation, and artificial price hikes.

The Ministry of National Food Security and Research, in coordination with provincial food departments, briefed the Committee on current sugar stocks, production projections, and market price trends.

The meeting was attended by Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Member FBR, and senior federal and provincial officials.

After a thorough review of the data presented on provincial and national sugar reserves, the committee expressed satisfaction over the overall availability and supply position.

Ports: Deputy Prime MinisterSenator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Saturday, emphasized the geographical location of Pakistan, terming it ‘an asset ‘ which needed to be explored, as the country lies at the crossroads of Central, South and West Asia.

By improving connectivity, the country could get maximum economic benefits, the DPM expressed these views while chairing a high-level meeting regarding the improvement of port connectivity.

Secretary Maritime Affairs gave a detailed briefing to the Committee regarding the current situation of Pakistani ports and their utilization capacity, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release.

The meeting was attended by the Ministers for Law & Justice and Maritime Affairs, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Maritime Affairs, DG NLC, Chairman of the Karachi Port Authority, and senior officials from relevant departments.

The committee reviewed measures for the development and enhancement of the efficiency and competitiveness of Pakistan’s ports.

Discussions also focused on improving port connectivity, streamlining operational processes, strengthening inter-agency coordination, facilitating trade and logistics, and advancing reforms to position Pakistan’s ports as efficient regional trade gateways.

Economy: Deputy Prime Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Saturday, emphasised the importance of intensifying efforts at the international and regional levels to promote Pakistan’s economy, including through enhanced compliance with international standards and obligations.

The DPM chaired an Inter-Ministerial meeting to review Pakistan’s efforts to enhance economic diplomacy, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release.

The meeting was attended by SAPM Tariq Bajwa, the Secretaries of Foreign Affairs and the Cabinet Division, and senior officials from relevant departments.

During the meeting, the DPM reaffirmed government’s commitment to sustainable economic stabilization and instructed all stakeholders to intensify their efforts in this regard.
