Erdogan hosts CDF Munir for key talks

Published on: July 14, 2026 4:32 PM

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara during his official visit to Turkiye. The high-level meeting highlighted the close strategic partnership between Pakistan and Turkiye and reinforced ongoing defence cooperation. The visit is expected to strengthen military coordination and bilateral ties between the two countries.

President Erdogan received Field Marshal Munir at Ankara Airport during a meeting held behind closed doors. Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Chief of General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, and National Intelligence Organisation Director Ibrahim Kalin also attended the discussions. Pakistan has not yet issued an official statement regarding the outcome of the meeting.

Separately, the Turkish Embassy in Pakistan said Field Marshal Munir received a guard of honour from a tri-services contingent upon his arrival in Ankara. General Bayraktaroglu welcomed the Pakistani military chief during his official visit. The embassy described Pakistan-Turkiye defence relations as rooted in brotherhood, mutual trust, and a shared strategic vision.

Field Marshal Munir arrived in Turkiye on a two-day official visit and is expected to hold important meetings with the country’s political and military leadership. State media previously reported that the visit would focus on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and discussing regional security developments. The schedule and timing of individual meetings have not been officially disclosed.

The visit follows growing military engagement between the two allies. Last month, Turkish Land Forces Commander General Metin Tokel visited Pakistan and met Field Marshal Munir. During those talks, both sides reviewed regional security dynamics and explored ways to further expand defence collaboration, while General Tokel also met Pakistan’s naval and air chiefs.
