Naqeebullah was innocent, says AIG Abbasi

Published on: January 23, 2018 4:34 PM

KARACHI: Additional Inspector General (AIG) Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Sanaullah Abbasi said on Tuesday that Naqeebullah Mehsud was innocent and all allegations leveled by former Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar against him were baseless.

Addressing a tribal assembly of the Mehsud tribe in Sohrab Goth, Abbasi said that the committee assigned the task to probe Naqeebullah’s case is conducting thorough investigation into the matter and that justice would be served to the family of the slain 27-year-old from South Waziristan.

AIG Abbasi headed committee last week on Thursday summoned former SSP Rao who was later sacked from his post after evidences provided by him related to Naqeebullah’s criminal record and alleged links with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were deemed bogus by the probing unit.

On Monday, Rao Anwar failed to appear before the committee for a second inquiry session while early on Tuesday, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) foiled the former SSP’s attempt to leave the country from Benazir International Airport.

The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has ordered hearing of Naqeebullah case on January 27.

Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old South Waziristan native, was gunned down in an alleged encounter on January 13 in Shah Latif town.
