Malala funded school starts operations in Shangla

Published on: March 16, 2018 6:36 PM

SHANGLA: A school supported by Malala-Fund started operations in the Nobel laureate’s hometown Shangla on Friday.

Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Prize winner for staking her life for the cause of girl’s education, congratulated the students of KKF Model School in Shangla on Twitter.

Congratulations to students at KKF Model School in Shangla on your first day! I was proud to give my @NobelPrize money to help build this school for girls in my home community. Thank you @MalalaFund, @Aman_Foundation, @TheBigHeartUAE & @susanmccaw. pic.twitter.com/HF4vsSdNpp

In 2014, the Nobel laureate vowed at the Malala Education Seminar to construct a school and college in her district to advocate girls education. She added that a number of children were deprived of education due to financial constraints.

Malala was born in the Shangla District in 1997, later she migrating to Swat with her parents. In 2012, Taliban targeted Malala for asserting her right to education. She survived the attack and is currently studying in United Kingdom’s Oxford University.

The KKF Model School is run by a board of trustees including the Malala’s family.
