Appeal to take back Maryam’s tickets submitted, replacement candidates selected

Published on: July 7, 2018 1:51 PM

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) today submitted the application to the returning officer (RO) to withdraw the ticket issued to Maryam Nawaz for National Assembly constituency NA-127 Lahore.

President PML-N Lahore Parvez Malik’s son and an independent candidate in NA-127 Ali Parvez Malik has written the application to the returning officer for withdrawal of Maryam’s ticket. Ali presented himself as an alternative candidate for PML-N’s ticket.

Irfan Shafi Khokhar will contest the election in place of Maryam on PML-N’s ticket for provincial assembly seat of PP-173 Lahore.

It must be noted that Maryam Nawaz has been charged by the accountability court with seven years in jail with regards to Avenfield reference case, and as per law, a convict cannot run for public office.
