Opposition to field joint candidates for PM, speakers slots

Published on: August 2, 2018 9:43 PM

The opposition forces, including PML-N, PPP, MMA and ANP, have decided to field joint candidates for the slots of  leader of the house, speaker and deputy speaker in the National Assembly.

Following the second meeting of all parties conference (APC) held at NA former speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s residence in Islamabad , Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sherry Rehman told the media that all APC parties have agreed on putting up a fight against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ‘in and outside parliament’.

The meeting was also attended by the leaders from Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), and the Awami National Party (ANP).

‘A 16-member committee has been formed which would decide the names of candidates for prime minister, speaker and deputy speaker positions,’ she said.

‘The National Assembly speaker would be fielded from PPP with the deputy speaker from MMA leadership,’ told the PPP leader.

She added all the parties  have decided to bring joint candidate for prime minister slot from PML-N.

Moreover, the APC once again rejected the general election results terming it ‘highly manipulated”.
