CJP Saqib Nisar hears sou motu notices on PKLI, Punjab’s mega projects

Published on: August 24, 2018 1:56 PM

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday will preside over the suo motu notices taken against the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) and other mega projects launched in Punjab over the past five years.

The cases will be heard at Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry.

According to the sources, two benches have been formed to hear the cases for today.

The first bench consists of CJP Saqib Nisar, Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan while the second bench has Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Manzoor Malik and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.

The advocate general of Punjab and secretary health appeared in court during the hearing of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) case.

However, the report presented by forensic auditor Kokab Zuberi stated that the PKLI project was estimated to be completed in Rs12.7 billion but the cost has gone up to Rs53 billion.

Zuberi further added that the project had to be completed by December 2017 but it still is incomplete and the present structure is in very poor condition.

The chief justice mentioned that the approval for the institute was not sought from Executive Committee of the National Economic Council.

Previously, in June, the CJP Nisar asked for a reply from PKLI and the Punjab government after misuse of Punjab’s money.
