‘Ronaldo is an egoist’, says Croatia coach

Published on: September 2, 2018 7:00 PM

Croatia tactician Zlatko Dalic slammed Juventus spearhead Cristiano Ronaldo calling him an ‘egoist’ over the latter’s reaction to Luka Modric winning the UEFA player of the year award.

Ronaldo was hopping mad at losing out to Croatia star Modric, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri revealed on Friday.

Real Madrid and Croatia midfield star Modric beat his former teammate Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah to the prize which was awarded on Thursday in Monaco.

“Yesterday he (Ronaldo) was very angry, and it’s only normal. He scored 15 goals in the Champions League and won the trophy with his teammates,” Allegri said.

The Portuguese’s annoyance, however, has not impressed Croatia coach, who has called him an ‘egoist’.

“The absence of Ronaldo at the UEFA ceremony, and all the comments about Modric? All of this just proves what I have been saying for quite some time; Ronaldo is an egoist and I would never want him on my team.”

“He is the kind of player that thinks ‘it does not matter if we lose, all that matter is if I score’,” Dalic concluded.

On Saturday, Ronaldo failed to score a third-consecutive time as Juventus beat Parma by 1-2 away from home.
