‘Best half of MCFC career’: Guardiola hails masterclass against Shakhtar

Published on: October 24, 2018 5:42 PM

Manchester City coach Josep Guardiola hailed his side’s performance against Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk terming it as ‘the best 45 minutes of his MCFC career’.

The blues had a poor start to their UEFA Champions League campaign as they lost 1-2 at home to French club Olympique Lyon. In match-day 2 of the competition, MCFC bagged crucial three points by beating Hoffeinheim 2-1 away from home.

It was, however, the Etihad residents’ performance on Wednesday against Shakhtar Donetsk that Pep Guardiola believes was the best during his on-going managerial career at the club.

“Our first half was the best first-half performance we have played in the last three seasons. We created a lot of chances and didn’t conceded any until the last few minutes,” Guardiola said as quoted by ESPN.

City opened the scoring via David Silva in minute 30 as he smashed a volley into the bottom-left corner. Defender Aymeric Laporte doubled the lead 5 minutes later, while Douglas Costa scored the third at minute 70 of the game.

It could have been much worse for the visitors but thanks to numerous missed chances by the Citizens, the scorecard remained stationary after 3-0.

Manchester City will face Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League (EPL) on Tuesday at the Wembley stadium.
