Published on: December 1, 2018 6:52 PM

ISLAMABAD: The government on Saturday has decided to take legal action against the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and has booked its top leadership under treason and terrorism charges.

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said said that government has against too leadership of TLP including Khadim Hussain Rizvi, Pri Afzal Qadri, Hafiz Farooqul Hassan and others under treason and terrorism charges.

The information Minister informed that Khadim Hussain Rizvi and other TLP leadership has been charged at Civil Lines Police station in Lahore.

“Afzal Hussain Qadri, who is the second most important TLP leader, has been charged over treason and terrorism allegations in Gujrat,” he said.

Fawad further stated that TLP leader, Inayatul Haq Shah, has been charged under treason and anti-terrorism laws in Rawalpindi while Hafiz Farooqul Hassan been charged under similar laws.

Last month, the TLP led countrywide protests against the Supreme Court’s (SC) decision regarding Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman accused of blasphemy. The days-long protests paralysed routine life in major cities of the country.

Police had already taken Rizvi and other top TLP leaders into protective custody last month when they refused to withdraw the call for yet another protest in Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh on November 25.
