Khaqan Abbasi excuses from appearing before NAB in LNG contract case

Published on: February 8, 2019 2:44 PM

RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi excused from appearing before National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) contract case.

The firmer prime minister was expected to appear before anti-corruption watchdog’s Rawalpindi office today (Friday). However, he excused from appearing before bureau as he is out of country.

Khaqan Abbasi has now been asked to appear on February 19.

Earlier in 2018, the NAB started an investigation against former premiers Abbasi and Nawaz Sharif over alleged misuse of power regarding an LNG terminal project.

Abbasi was accused of “granting a 15-year contract of LNG terminal to Alengy Terminal in 2013 in violation of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority’s rules and by misuse of his powers, which caused national exchequer a loss of billions of rupees”, the watchdog said.

The case was registered in 2015, on the complaint of Shahid Sattar, an energy expert and former member of the Planning Commission and the Sui Southern Gas Company board of directors.
