US consulate, AzCorp celebrate successful women

Published on: March 30, 2019 4:22 AM

US Consulate Karachi jointly hosted an event in collaboration with AzCorp entertainment to celebrate the spirit of women.

The event, titled, Women in the Workplace,” sought to create a dialogue with reference to the importance of female participation in the workforce. While highlighting the achievements of women in leading positions in their careers, the event also detailed over their journey.

US Consul General, JoAnne Wagner also gave opening remarks on the occasion, which was followed by a panel discussion on the importance of ensuring female empowerment and inclusion. The panel included male leaders in decision-making positions in their respective organizations.

The idea behind an all-male panel was to reemphasise the ethos of the famous #HeforShe UN campaign to promote gender equality through the endorsement of both genders for each other.

Venture Dive CEO, Atif Azim; former Google head, Khurram Jamali; SABAQ CEO, Hassan Bin Rizwan and actor Adnan Malik were a part of the panel, moderated by Geo Network’s Gender Sensitivity Head, Uzma Al Karim.

Another panel discussion, titled, “Strong Women and Their Journeys,” was moderated by US Cultural Attaché, Stephen Valen. Panellists included Acumen Country Director, Ayesha Khan; Alfalah Investments CEO, Maheen Rahman; educationist, Shahnaz Wazir Ali and actor, Sarwat Gillani.

This discussion highlighted the journey of several incredible women, noting how they got around to choosing their unconventional careers. Participants spoke about their paths and the problems faced during their careers. Faheem Azam and Alycia Dias also performed in between the panel discussions to bring laughter and entertainment.

AzCorp Entertainment CEO and Founder, Imran Azhar, noted in his concluding remarks, “We are mindful while creating our content that we create awareness on gender equality and women empowerment through local female heroes.”

He added, “Through our characters, we have shown empowered female protagonists who shape their own fate by taking life head on despite adversities and challenges.”
