AJK cabinet okays enhanced compensation for losses due to Indian shelling

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) cabinet, on Wednesday, approved amendments in law to increase compensation for losses of lives and moveable and immovable properties in Indian shelling across the Line of Control (LoC).

The amendments to the AJK Ceasefire Line Incidents Relief Act were approved in the light of the recommendations put forth by a committee headed by Minister for Communication and Works, Chaudhry Mohammad Aziz.

The committee was chaired by AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider and includes Minister for Revenue, Sardar Farooq Sikandar, and senior member of Board of Revenue, Fayyaz Ali Abbasi, The cabinet meeting raised the compensation given to the family of each martyr at the LoC from Rs300,000 to Rs1 million.

Rs 800,000 were approved for a permanent disability; Rs300,000 for grievous injury; Rs 40,000 for simple injury; Rs 50,000 for tenant’s business goods; Rs 90,000 for loss of camel; Rs 50,000 for loss of buffalo, cow or horse; Rs 40,000 for loss of mule or donkey; Rs 15,000 for loss of sheep or goat and Rs 50,000 for loss of household accessories.
