CM to announce special package for labourers

Published on: April 30, 2019 4:23 AM

The Punjab government has reportedly decided to introduce a comprehensive package for the welfare of labourers, which will be announced by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Labour Day falling on May 1.

The ceremony in this regard will be held at Warburton, Nankana Sahib, where the CM will distribute allotment letters of flats among the workers along with the distribution of Insaaf Sehat Cards.

A high-level meeting was held under the chair of Buzdar at his office on Monday, in which the labourers’ package and arrangements of the ceremony were reviewed.

Addressing the meeting, the CM said that time had come to improve the living conditions of the labourers, adding that a special package had been chalked out by the government to given incentives and facilities to them. “Every measure will be adopted for maintaining good health of the labourers and providing them other facilities,” he added. Labour Minister Ansar Majeed Khan Niazi and the labour secretary briefed the CM on the arrangements and salient features of the package. Provincial ministers Ansar Majeed Khan Niazi, Dr Yasmin Rashid and other officials attended the meeting.

Separately, Buzdar presided over a meeting at his office, in which the performance of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) and the renovation of the mausoleum of Mir Chakar Azam Rind in Okara were reviewed.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM disclosed that the scope of the WCLA would be expanded to other districts of the province where historical buildings would be restored to their original shape. The restoration of historical sites would help improve the overall beauty of the cities, along with the promotion of tourism, he said. “Lahore and many other cities have their distinctive importance of historical nature, and this can result in promoting tourism.”

He said the PTI government was working to develop the tourism sector and informed that the mausoleum of Mir Chakar Azam Rind in Okara would be restored, while work on construction and repair of roads leading to the tomb would also be started soon.

WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari gave a briefing on the restoration of Lahore Fort wall and the royal kitchen, along with the refurbishment of the tomb of Mir Chakar Azam Rind. Secretaries of Local Government, Auqaf and Archaeology departments, Lahore commissioner and CCPO, Okara DC and other officials attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Nadeem Afzal Chan called on Buzdar at his office on Monday. During the meeting, various matters of mutual interest, including political situation and media-related strategy came under discussion.

Speaking on the occasion, Buzdar said the opposition was afraid of the accountability process, and added that no thief would be allowed to get away. “The people are yearning for the accountability of the plunderers,” he said.

“Attention has been paid to the provision of healthcare and educational facilities, and development schemes relating to the backward areas are being personally monitored by me,” he said. “I am also monitoring the ground realities by visiting various districts. No one will be allowed to interfere in the mission of public service.”
