Published on: May 4, 2019 2:40 AM

Police claims 50 pc reductions in street crimes during the last four months of this year and motorbike theft ratio is also reduced up to 30 pc during this year.

It was claimed by the city police officer (CPO) Abbas Ahsan Friday while addressing a “Meet the Press” in Rawalpindi Press Club. He informed that more than 29 thousand applications are received at the front desks of the different police station of the city this year. 6000 of them are converted into the First Information Reports (FIRs).

Ahsan said, after the court verdict regarding the writ petition under sections 22-A, Rawalpindi Police received 75 applications till date. All these applications are disposed of within three days. 46 FIRs are registered on these applications while 29 are dropped. However, not a single appeal is received regarding the decision on such applications.

He was flanked by SSP Operation Ali Akbar, SP Saddar Mazhar, SP Rawal Usman, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muhammad Bin Ashraf and ASP Benish. To a query, CPO said, Rawalpindi police has initiated a campaign against the “A” category proclaimed offenders and detained 56 proclaimed offenders during last 15 days.

Explaining the security plan to maintain law and order the situation during the holy month of Ramadan, he said all the Mosques and Imam Bargahs are divided into three different categories. Foolproof security arrangements would be made during the holy month of Ramadan to avoid any untoward incident.

Answering a question Ahsan said, an awareness campaign regarding the one wheeling will be launched soon. Moreover, notices will be issued to motorcycle workshops who are doing alterations of bikes used for one wheeling.
