ATC adjourns Imran Farooq case hearing until May 24

Published on: May 15, 2019 12:26 AM

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the Dr Imran Farooq case till May 24 and also allowed for submission of more documents by the defense.

As ATC judge Shahrukh Arjumand resumed the hearing on Tuesday, the counsel representing accused Khalid Shamim requested the court for more time for submission of additional documents in defense of his client. The court accepted the request and ordered to enlist the documents along the case property.

The court also directed the defense counsel for completion of arguments on the documents submitted before the court at the next date of hearing.

During the previous hearing, the court had recorded the statements of accused Khalid Shamim and Mohsin under sections 342 CrPC. The court adjourned the hearing till May 24.

During the previous hearing, both the accused had denied their confessional statements recorded earlier before a magistrate. The accused claimed that their previous statements had been given under coercion.

Three suspects – Khalid Shamim, Syed Mohsin Ali and Moazzam Ali – had been indicted in the case, while four others were declared proclaimed offenders.

Two of the suspects, Khalid Shamim and Syed Mohsin Ali, had earlier recorded their confessional statements, alleging that the slain Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader was killed because he was a “threat to the leadership of MQM”.

Imran Farooq was murdered outside his house in London on September 16, 2010.
