Heavy monsoon rains continue across various parts of Pakistan, causing tragic incidents and widespread disruption. In Punjab, six people, including children, have lost their lives in separate rain-related accidents, while 25 others sustained injuries. In Chunian, Kasur, two young girls died after a roof collapsed during the rain. A similar incident in Bahawalnagar claimed the life of a 4-year-old boy.
Strong winds and heavy downpours have caused power outages in many areas as feeders tripped. Low-lying neighborhoods have also been flooded. In Lahore, Nishtar Town recorded the highest rainfall at 45 mm, severely affecting the city’s flight operations. Meanwhile, rain brought pleasant weather to Islamabad and Rawalpindi, but also exposed flaws in infrastructure, as the Islamabad High Court building began leaking just two years after completion.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mardan and North Waziristan witnessed thundershowers, while South Waziristan faced stormy rains that caused a mosque roof to collapse and damaged homes and shops. The weather system is expected to affect more regions. Karachi and parts of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Thatta, and Larkana, are forecast to experience intense rain from today until June 29.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alerts warning of potential flooding and landslides. Islamabad, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Mianwali may receive heavy rains with strong winds from June 26 to 28. Mountainous areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, such as Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Abbottabad, are at high risk of landslides. Azad Kashmir, including Neelum Valley and Muzaffarabad, may also face severe weather.
NDMA has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents have been asked to stay alert, follow safety guidelines, and report emergencies to local authorities without delay.
