NEPRA reduces electricity base tariff across Pakistan from july 1

Published on: July 2, 2025 3:37 PM

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction in electricity base tariffs starting July 1, 2025. This decision was made after a public hearing on the federal government’s request for a uniform tariff across the country. The move is aimed at providing relief to millions of electricity consumers.

According to NEPRA, electricity has been made cheaper by Rs1.15 per unit for all categories except lifeline consumers. This reduction applies to K-Electric and all other power distribution companies. However, NEPRA did not give a clear answer regarding the previously expected Rs7.41 relief for consumers, creating some uncertainty.

Lifeline users will continue to pay the same rates. Those using up to 50 units per month will still pay Rs3.95 per unit, while those using up to 100 units will pay Rs7.74 per unit. For protected users consuming up to 100 units, the tariff has been cut to Rs10.54 per unit. If consumption reaches 200 units, the new rate is Rs13.01 per unit.

For non-protected users, NEPRA has reduced the per-unit rate by Rs1.15 across all slabs. Commercial users will now pay Rs45.43 per unit, and general services will pay Rs43.17 per unit. Industries will benefit from a new average base rate of Rs33.48 per unit.

In addition, the base tariff for bulk power users has been set at Rs41.76 per unit, and agriculture consumers will now pay Rs30.75 per unit. This decision is expected to slightly ease the financial burden on households, businesses, and industries, though the overall electricity cost remains high in many sectors.
