Minister Aleem Khan warns of high flood risk in Punjab rivers

Published on: August 27, 2025 6:34 PM

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan called the flood situation in Punjab alarming during his visit to Shahdara on Wednesday. He said high water levels in rivers like the Ravi pose a serious threat to nearby communities. His visit aimed to inspect flood arrangements and ensure emergency measures are in place.

Aleem Khan stressed that two to three rivers are facing high-level flooding. He warned that the situation remains dangerous and requires constant caution. The minister said evacuations from slum areas near rivers have already taken place to protect lives.

He also said that embankments and safety structures are under close watch. Authorities are working to improve flood protection and prepare for rising water. Aleem Khan instructed officials to provide full support to residents in affected zones.

In his media talk, the minister highlighted the need for long-term flood defenses. He said only strong dams and permanent structures can fully protect river-side populations from future disasters. He urged quick progress on such projects.

Aleem Khan assured the public that both the government and local administration are on high alert. He said protecting lives is the top priority and advised people to remain cautious and prepared for any emergency.
