Polio campaign resumes in South Waziristan after two years

Published on: October 19, 2025 4:17 AM

Newly appointed Deputy Commissioner South Waziristan Upper Asmatullah Wazir has undertaken a series of remarkable administrative and humanitarian initiatives that have brought tangible relief and progress to the district.

After years of delay, DC Asmatullah Wazir successfully completed and forwarded all pending compensation cases of landmine victims and natural calamities to Peshawar. As a result, an amount of Rs. 70 million was released, and cheques were distributed among the affected individuals, said a press release issued here on Saturday.

Under his leadership, the long-suspended polio vaccination campaign, which had been inactive since 2023 in different areas of the district, was restarted across all union councils, marking a major step toward safeguarding children’s health.

In a firm administrative move, DC Asmatullah Wazir took disciplinary action against negligent government employees, suspending 119 teachers and 46 health department officials for failing to perform their duties.

To address longstanding boundary disputes with neighboring district North Waziristan the Deputy Commissioner convened multiple jirgas (tribal councils), all of which have made substantial progress toward peaceful resolution.

DC Asmatullah Wazir has also streamlined administrative affairs, ensuring transparency and eliminating bureaucratic hurdles that previously hindered public service delivery.

Through proactive governance and community engagement, he has taken significant steps to resolve major local issues efforts that, according to locals, have been met with visible success.

Amid the region’s fragile security environment, DC Asmatullah Wazir continues to serve as a vital bridge between the public and security institutions, strengthening public trust in government mechanisms and fostering a sense of stability across South Waziristan Upper.
