LONDON – UK Secretary of State for Defence John Healey has confirmed that the government is moving to strip Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, of his remaining honorary military title of Vice-Admiral.

According to The Guardian, the decision follows consultations with King Charles III and comes as part of broader actions taken against the disgraced former royal. Andrew had retained the honorary title since 2015, despite being forced to relinquish his other military positions in 2022 amid controversy.

Speaking to BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Healey said, “In general, the government has been guided by the decisions and judgments the king has made. In defence, it’s exactly the same.” He added, “We’ve seen Andrew surrender the honorary positions he’s had throughout the military, and guided again by the king, we are working now to remove that last remaining title of vice-admiral that he has.”

When asked about the possibility of removing Andrew’s medals, Healey noted, “I don’t have an update for you on that, but just as with his vice-admiral rank and title, we would be guided by the decisions the king makes.”

King Charles had previously stripped his younger brother of royal duties and the title of “prince,” with palace sources describing the measures as “necessary censures,” despite Andrew continuing to deny the allegations against him.
