FIR filed against KP CM Sohail Afridi over alleged anti-state remarks

Published on: November 10, 2025 1:08 PM

CM Afridi booked under PECA over 'anti-state' statement
ISLAMABAD – A case has been registered against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) following the circulation of videos on social media allegedly defaming state and national security institutions.

The FIR, lodged at the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Islamabad by a sub-inspector of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), cites Afridi’s media talk outside Adiala Jail. During the interaction, he allegedly made false and derogatory statements about state institutions, which were subsequently shared on the official PTI social media accounts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The case has been assigned to NCCIA Sub-Inspector Waseem Khan for investigation.

The complaint alleges that Afridi created and spread misleading content on social media with the intent to incite violence, provoke hatred, and promote anti-state sentiments, posing a threat to Pakistan’s security and stability.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the KP chief minister’s remarks, calling them “baseless and intolerable,” and accused Afridi of showing “extreme ingratitude” toward the sacrifices of security personnel in the province. Naqvi demanded that Afridi apologise to the nation, emphasizing the valor and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces.
