Khawaja Asif: Pakistan still paying for Faiz Hameed’s decisions

Published on: December 11, 2025 5:16 PM

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has stated that the nation will continue to suffer the consequences of decisions made during the tenures of former ISI Chief General Faiz Hameed and former Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Asif emphasized that the political and institutional actions taken by both military leaders would impact the country for years to come.

In his statement, Asif remarked, “The country will reap for years the crop grown from the seeds Faiz and Bajwa planted.” He expressed concern over the long-term effects of these past decisions, highlighting the difficulties Pakistan may continue to face as a result.

Asif prayed for the nation, asking for wisdom and guidance in the use of power and authority, calling for rulers to be driven by the fear of God in their actions. His comments reflect a deep concern for the country’s future, urging leaders to use their positions for the benefit of the people.

These remarks came after the sentencing of former Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment. The sentence, effective from December 11, 2025, follows a lengthy trial process under the Pakistan Army Act, where Hameed faced four charges.

The trial and sentencing of Hameed have drawn significant attention, with many seeing it as a crucial moment for accountability in Pakistan’s military and political spheres. Asif’s statement further underscores the ongoing repercussions of past military decisions on the country’s stability.
