US begins official sale of Venezuelan oil

Published on: January 15, 2026 3:45 PM

The United States has officially started selling Venezuelan oil. US officials confirmed the first authorized sale worth 500 million dollars. More oil sales are expected in the coming days.

According to American authorities, the sale marks a major policy shift. It follows recent US control over Venezuelan oil assets. Officials said the process will continue in phases. The goal is to manage and expand oil exports.

Meanwhile, the White House said talks are underway with oil companies. President Donald Trump’s team is engaging firms ready to invest. These companies aim to rebuild Venezuela’s oil infrastructure. They plan to restore production and export capacity.

Earlier, the United States carried out a military operation in Venezuela. The operation took place on January 3. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were arrested. They were later presented before a US court.
