Sindh microfinance bank receives nationwide banking license

Published on: February 10, 2026 10:03 PM

The State Bank of Pakistan has granted Sindh Microfinance Bank a nationwide microfinance banking license, allowing the institution to expand services across the country and enhance financial access for underserved communities. The license came into effect on February 10, 2026.

With the new authorization, Sindh Microfinance Bank can now operate beyond provincial boundaries, offering small loans, savings, and other banking services to low-income groups and small entrepreneurs. This expansion aims to strengthen the overall financial ecosystem in Pakistan.

Financial experts believe the move will significantly boost financial inclusion, enabling individuals and small businesses previously excluded from formal banking to gain access to credit and essential financial tools. Consequently, it can help reduce economic disparities across regions.

The bank’s nationwide operations are expected to foster entrepreneurship by providing necessary funding and support to self-employed individuals and small traders. In addition, expanded microfinance services can stimulate economic activity and promote sustainable growth at the grassroots level.

Officials highlighted that increased access to banking will empower communities, improve financial literacy, and create new opportunities for wealth generation, particularly in rural and underserved urban areas, supporting Pakistan’s broader economic development goals.

The State Bank emphasized that granting this license aligns with its ongoing efforts to modernize the banking sector and ensure equitable financial access, making microfinance a key tool in strengthening economic stability and opportunity nationwide.
